Kereru Room

The first part of the house has been dated between 1840 & 1860, so spoil yourself and spend a night or two in one of NZ's oldest rooms.

The west wing of the house has been converted into guest accommodation. Enjoy unique furnishings of a bygone era while not having to forgo any of the modern amenities like wifi and indoor plumbing!

Relax in one of two well-appointed rooms and enjoy an evening taking in the birdsong and bush around you. Enjoy a sumptuous cooked breakfast with genuine barista coffee which is included in the room rate - before either heading out on your Northland adventures, or grabbing a book in a comfy corner to recharge yourself.

The Villa, originally two simple rooms, has been extended over the early part of last century with multiple rooms and a conservatory added. Much of it's rustic past has been preserved and exposed to tell the story of this grand old building. A large section of the current building has been developed for accommodation, but in keeping with its rustic themed character and past, while the rest is still being painstakingly restored by the Dee & Sean, the current owner/operators.

Downes House is a historically significant home, located in Kohukohu. It was built as the office for the Kauri mill  that was adjacent and has a lively and varied history including being (supposedly) a billiards room, a reading room, a workingmen's club and even a police station with a jail in the basement!

Downes House is a great place to base yourself while doing Aotearoa's most northern Great Ride - the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycleway.  Popular all year round, it's an activity for novice or experienced cyclists and a great way to experience what Northland has to offer.
